Christianity Meets Life

Do you have a friend who is homosexual? Are you not sure what Scripture says about homosexuality? Are you struggling with a sin that just doesn't seem to go away? Ever wondered where it says in Scripture that you shouldn't have sex before you are married? You're supposed to drive the car before you buy it right? Have you been plagued by questions that the church just doesn't seem to want to bring up or answer - I have been...and this blog is dedicated to issues such as that.

Having grown up in the church, I'd never had my faith challenged or been confronted with difficult questions regarding Christianity...until I was called into youth ministry. When I went from the pew to the pulpit, everything changed. All of a sudden I found myself ill equipped for the job before me. There I was, only 21 and standing in the lions den; a dozen teenagers with real life questions and me with no biblical training or ministry experience. It reminded me of stories I'd heard from my uncle who, when it came time to learn how to swim, got thrown off the dock. Splash!...and off we went - Bible in hand.

Four and a half years later, my time as a youth pastor is coming to an end but the lessons I've learned continue to teach me. I've learned that our cute, pat, churchy answers really don't cut it any more. This generation of young people needs real answers. They don't need a preacher informing them that having sex with their boyfriend or girlfriend is a sin and they'd better stop or else...but a friend who loves them through their sins and helps them understand what God's Word says on the issue - and loves them even when they continue sleeping with that significant other. They need not just to read that homosexuality is a sin but to understand that we can still hang out with those who are homosexual; we can go to coffee with them, talk, hang out, and not ostracize them. They need to understand how this Christian faith that we say we follow informs our daily routine; they need to understand how Christianity Meets Life.

So whether you're a Christian with difficult questions regarding our faith, an individual who
has had enough of the status quo, or someone who loves to discuss and debate - this blogs for you. We can talk about anything and everything - as long as it is informed discussion and not aimless, meaningless ranting and raving - though a little ranting and raven is definitely allowed.

Though life is extremely busy at the moment, I'll try to post a new blog at least every other week. Please, interact with it. Give me your thoughts, leave me comments, send me an issue you'd like to discuss, or show me the errors of my way - whatever floats your boat... and we'll walk through these issues and discussions together.

Sincerely,
Robbie
